FAQ

How can cancer be prevented?

The number of cases of cancer can be reduced and many deaths avoided. Studies show that screening for cervical and colorectal cancer helps to prevent these diseases by identifying pre-cancerous lesions that can be treated before they develop into cancer. Screening for cervical, colorectal and breast cancer can also help detect these diseases in early stages, when treatment is more effective.

Vaccines can also reduce the risk of cancer. The vaccine against human papilloma virus (HPV) helps to prevent the majority of cervical cancers and some vulvar cancers. The Hepatitis B vaccine can reduce the risk of contracting liver cancer.

Certain lifestyle and healthcare choices help to reduce the risk of cancer, such as regular medical check-ups, not smoking tobacco, limiting your consumption of alcoholic drinks, protecting skin from the sun and avoiding sunbeds, eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, maintaining a healthy weight and being physically active.
