Barcelona, 11th July 2014 - Dr Rafael Rosell's numerous contributions to medical oncology throughout his long career have been recognized by the Fundación para la Excelencia y la Calidad de la Oncología (Foundation for Excellence and Quality in Oncology, ECO) with the Prize for Best Scientific and Clinical Career. Dr Rosell was presented with the award during the 3rd annual ceremony at the Royal National Academy of Medicine in Madrid on July 10th.



The Prize is awarded each year to a person who has significantly advanced the discipline of medical oncology. According to the panel of judges, Dr Rosell was selected due to "his outstanding career and status as one of the most important figures in the scientific and medical oncology community, serving on the boards of diverse cancer institutions, especially those related to lung cancer, and being President and Founder of the Spanish Lung Cancer Group".



The ECO Foundation is a group of experts comprised of heads of service of some of the most important Spanish hospitals. Its aim to identify solutions and tools which permit excellence and high quality in oncology to be achieved. Thus, this network of specialists works to improve quality in three areas: patient care (both received and percieved), specialized training and promotion of scientific investigation.
