Dr Rafael Rosell presents new findings and the discovery of a two-gene predictive model at EMCTO, Lugano

Barcelona, Friday, 25 February 2011 - Dr Rafael Rosell - Head of Medical Oncology at both the Oncology Institute Dr. Rosell and the Catalan Institute of Oncology, and President of the Spanish Lung Cancer Group - presented findings from recent investigations at the 2nd European Multidisciplinary Conference in Thoracic Oncology (EMCTO) this month. Dr Rosell presented the results of a large series of genes analyzed by NanoString Technology, detailing the emergence of the AEG-1 gene as a strong predictive factor of response to the drug erlotinib, a finding with significant implications for cancer treatment selection.



The EMCTO congress, organized by the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), is attended by key international investigators in thoracic oncology and this year was held between the 24th and 26th February 2011 in Lugano, Switzerland.



The findings from Dr Rosell’s team generated great interest among the scientific community and the press, with the news picked up and featured by leading online scientific journals around the world.
